Peer reviewPeer Reflection of Education Practice (PREP)The Education Enhancement Committee has approved a new Peer Reflection of Education Practice (PREP) scheme which offers a revised approach to peer observation of teaching for 2011-12. The purpose of the new PREP approach is to provide a systematic, yet flexible, framework to review and enhance education practice for the benefit of staff and students. PREP encourages a much broader approach that the previous teaching observation scheme and reflects a more collaborative model of peer support. Schools are responsible for designing, managing and monitoring their PREP scheme and reporting annually to School Academic Board and EEC. Further information on the operationalisation of the scheme at School level will be available in due course. >> Further details of the PREP Policy and Procedure Peer ObservationTraditionally, the observation of classroom teaching was an important element in assuring the quality of teaching, but it can now be a much richer experience, enabling colleagues to review far more of the educational experience than that taking place in the classroom. The BU approach to peer observation is incorporated within the new Peer Reflection of Education (PREP) scheme. Quality Assurance and Enhancement GroupBecoming a member of the BU Quality Assurance and Enhancement Group is an excellent way of keeping up to date with QA processes and finding out more about programme, framework and assessment processes. By contributing to peer review in this way you will be playing an important role in maintaining the high standards of BU programmes. External examinershipsThe External Examiner role plays a critical part in underpinning the quality and standards of UK higher education. Taking on this role for another higher education institution is well worthwhile. Although the financial remuneration is usually minimal, the opportunity to review approaches to education and assessment elsewhere can provide valuable insights to bring back into your own programme. BU values the varied range of experience provided by its own External Examiners. A national Review of External Examining Arrangements in the UK is underway and its first discussion paper provides a good overview of the significance of the role. |
