Research and educationLinks between education and discipline-based research are at the core of the distinctive nature of higher education. Developing these links in order to advance student learning may be done in a number of ways through the curriculum, for example:
The Higher Education Academy has a section on resources linking teaching and discipline-based research including the 2009 publication by Alan Jenkins and Mick Healey that develops the idea of students becoming stakeholders in a research community through their engagement with research and inquiry in collaboration with lecturers. A series of Masterclasses by staff from across the six academic Schools in 2008/09 demonstrate how BU staff have used their research to both inform their teaching and engage their students in research. |
