Marketing & Communications (M&C)

M&C is a Professional Service providing an ‘umbrella’ for three distinct, but linked, areas of the University’s external-facing activities:

• Communications
• International Relations & Admissions
• Marketing & Student Recruitment

The Director of M&C is Dr Vicky Lewis (vlewis@bournemouth.ac.uk). The Office Administrator / PA, who can direct your enquiry to the appropriate person, is Amanda Bailey / Natalie Woodward (m&cadmin@bournemouth.ac.uk).

Communications

The Communications team acts as ‘brand champion’ and delivers marketing and corporate communications (on- and off-line) in line with our brand values and messages.

It incorporates in-house design, new media (including web) and editorial functions, and works with external suppliers as appropriate to fulfil client needs in line with the University’s marketing strategy.

The team also covers PR, including media relations (as part of a proactive reputation-building plan, as well as covering the 'crisis management' end of the spectrum), relationship-building with our wider publics (including elements of community relations), corporate profile raising activity (via events, publications etc) and internal communications via such vehicles as the Bulletin monthly newsletter, the staff portal and more.

International Relations & Admissions

The International Relations and Admissions Team is comprised of two teams.

• The International Relations Team acts as a focal point for the marketing and promotion of the University to international students including making visits overseas to meet prospective students.
• The International Admissions Team is responsible for processing all applications to BU from non UK applicants.

Marketing & Student Recruitment (UK)

Led by the Head of Marketing, the Marketing team plays a key role in developing and delivering various aspects of our marketing strategy. It includes a small market research function, marketing product (eg undergraduate, foundation degree, flexible learning), and functional marketing specialists (relationship marketing, advertising).

The Marketing team has responsibility for managing BU's prospective student enquiry service, through the dedicated ‘askBU’ team. It also includes the education liaison function, which reaches out via HE fairs, on and off-campus school/college visits and relationship building with careers advisors to potential students and their influencers.

Each Academic School has a named Marketing Development Manager within the corporate Marketing team.
