Legal Services

Legal Services advise the University on a variety of matters relating to management of its legal risk. This includes its contracting arrangements, intellectual property exploitation, legal aspects of corporate governance, freedom of information and data protection and disputes. They work closely with the other parts of Financial and Commercial Services.

Deborah Wakely, Senior Legal Services Manager

Deborah has been a qualified solicitor for more than ten years. Before joining the University she worked in private practice specialising in litigation. She has also studied for a Masters degree in Intellectual Property Law. Deborah manages the Legal Services team and deals with a broad spectrum of legal issues affecting the University.

Jeremy Swain, Legal Services Manager

Jeremy is a qualified solicitor. Before joining the University he worked in both private practice and the Government Legal Service. He has a broad range of experience in commercial and public law matters. Jeremy provides legal support across the University, with a particular focus on its commercial activities, including enterprise and commercialisation.

Sam Morfey, Legal Services Manager

Sam is a qualified solicitor. Before joining the University he worked as a solicitor in both private practice and financial services and in marketing before that. He has a broad range of experience in commercial, IT, sport and intellectual property matters. Sam advises the University on a range of matters, with a particular focus on its contractual and commercial activities, including enterprise and commercialisation.

Aude Battistella, Legal Services Officer

Aude provides legal advice on all aspects of research and enterprise activities including sponsored research, collaboration projects, consultancy and commercialisation of intellectual property rights. She helps Schools and Professional Services with any legal queries they may have and with contracts drafting and negotiation. Aude also provides ad hoc training as and when required on intellectual property rights matters.

 

Before joining Bournemouth University Aude worked for several years as Contracts Advisor in an international manufacturing company where she gained experience and knowledge in international business contracts.

Angela Bavister, Legal Services Officer

Angela trained as a solicitor in private practice and has experience in employment law and property law. Before joining Bournemouth University, Angela worked in the Careers Service at Oxford University.  Angela provides legal advice across the University on a variety of issues, including helping Schools and Professional Services with contracts drafting and negotiation.

Michelle Goodbody, Legal Services Support Officer

Michelle is a former Bournemouth University LLB Law student graduating with First Class Honours. Subsequent to this, Michelle completed the Legal Practice Course at BBP Law School, Holborn with Distinction.

 

Before joining the University, Michelle worked in both private practice and in-house legal departments. Michelle’s legal experience relates to contractual, intellectual property, employment and general commercial matters.

 

As Legal Services Support Officer, Michelle supports the Legal Services team with its contractual assessment of legal risk and records management. Michelle’s role also encompasses Data protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information requests in her capacity as Information Officer.

Zeke Blattner, Legal Services Officer

Zeke is a newly qualified solicitor. Before joining the University he worked in private practice in Warwickshire. He has broad experience of corporate, commercial, and charitable matters. Zeke has also worked extensively in both public and private sectors prior to his legal qualification. Zeke advises the University on a range of matters with a particular focus on contractual, commercial and regulatory compliance matters. He helps Schools and Professional Services with any legal queries they may have with contract drafting and negotiation

Claire Munro, Legal Services Officer and Company Secretary

Claire is a qualified solicitor. Before joining the University she worked in private practice specialising in corporate law. Claire provides legal support across the University, with a particular focus on its corporate and commercial activities. She is also the company secretary of the University’s wholly owned subsidiary companies.
