Students' Union (SU)

The Students' Union exists to represent, support and develop students. The three key areas of the Union are Representation, Involvement and Advice for students to enhance their experience while at University. Its services cover a wide range of non-commercial activities which are partially funded by the University but most of its financial resource comes from its commercial activities.

All University staff are automatically 'associate' members of the Students' Union. This entitles access to any of the commercial areas of the Union (a University staff card may be required on entry), and to partake in (but not lead) any Union activities such as clubs and societies, volunteering, RAG and Nerve. All activities are intended to encourage student development and to reinforce the Union's ethos of helping people to 'realise their 'potential'.

SU in partnership with the University
The full time officers and some executive members represent student views through their involvement on University committees e.g. Board of Governors, Senate, Student Affairs, Academic Standards, Equal Opportunities Steering Group, as well as through formal and informal discussions with University staff at all levels. The Union believes in working closely with the University. Union officers, staff and volunteers work together with University staff on projects such as QAA audit preparation, widening participation, and the independent appeals panel as well as various working parties.
