Collaboration examples
The Smart Technology Research Centre has an extensive track record of collaboration with business and industrial partners, with a few recent partners listed below:
- British Telecommunications (telecommunication industry): a number of projects in the areas of data mining, customer profiling, predictive modelling and intelligent data analysis focusing among others on churn prediction, fraud detection, improving customer satisfaction.
- Lufthansa Systems (airline industry): a number of projects related to demand forecasting in revenue management systems.
- Evonik-Degussa (process industry): improving operational excellence of large chemical plants and processes through development of highly adaptive soft sensor technology.
- Siemens (transport industry): pattern based identification of vehicles from inductive loops sensory data.
- Screwfix (retail industry): inductive data mining in very large customer databases, customer profiling and optimisation of large database operations.
- Salisbury Hospital Trust (health industry): development of smart sensory technologies and approaches in the areas of physiological measurements and sensor development, functional electrical stimulation and pressure sores prevention and treatment.
Consultancy, short courses and trainings
We are frequently involved in a number of consultancy projects. They are usually funded by the companies, with the option of STRC helping in the search of funding from other sources. Recent collaboration examples include:
Based on our expertise listed above, we are also able to provide tailored short courses for companies and other organisations. An example of an established, very successful course is ''Sonar''. It consists of a 2-day Introduction and a 3-day more in-depth look at Sonar, running twice a year and attracting delegates from most of the major UK companies active in the sonar field. More information can be found on the course website.
