Volunteering Opportunities

Bill Bryson has committed to support the project and urges others to join him by offering their time and enthusiasm. We need your help in the following areas:

  • Research/information: research into themes or additional information is required that might relate to the themes summarised here.
  • Primary schools learning material: this will be structured by a group of Humanities teachers but any ideas for ways in which to make the information exciting or any novel approaches to content for the activity book will be welcomed.
  • Plan recording: recording information about previously unpublished Bournemouth planning maps needs to be undertaken.
  • Collection recording: all the collections of photographs, paintings etc have to be recorded in a common format and we need people with typing/PC skills to record the information before the images can appear on the website.
  • Transcribing: tithe maps of West and East Christchurch have accompanying apportionments describing the owners and the land which need to be transcribed.
  • Copyright clearance: this is a vital part of the process that will allow us to publish the images on the website. If you are a frustrated detective this one is for you.
  • Community co-ordinators are required to encourage contributors in community areas (defined by public library areas) to add material to the website once it has been launched and to monitor the nature of the material.
  • Oral history recording: volunteers are required to make recordings of people's stories and to contribute their own memories.

These are not difficult tasks and training and guidance will be provided. We're ready to make a start so if you would like to offer your help please email us on Streets of Bournemouth now.
