We undertake high-quality teaching, research and enterprise activity in a broad range of fields and disciplines including sport, social sustainability and social change, consumer behaviour and, the critical study of events.

We produce innovative high-quality research which has application in the real world and that impacts on policy, performance, participation, practice, and pressing social problems. We work closely with a range of research partners, funders, governments, and the general public, undertaking research locally, nationally and internationally. Staff in the Department publish widely in high-quality journals and widely-respected books, have developed an international reputation in a number of fields, and continue to shape sport and event research.

Our philosophy is to provide an education that combines theory, research and practice in the fields of event and sport management.
