Imagine a world in which it is not expert knowledge but a free-for-all opinion market on social media that determines outcomes of presidential campaign or high profile court case. No need to imagine, we are witnessing the growing abundance of misinformation and its impact on people’s decision-making. Declining trust in public and non-profit organisations forces them to use persuasive marketing techniques that tap into diverse range of emotions - shock, excitement and joy – in order to engage a public with their messages, causes and initiatives.
The theme of the 17th International Congress on Public and Nonprofit Marketing – “Vanilla, shock and entertainment - marketing in the era of emotions” - embraces the complex changes driven by dynamic social, technological and political forces surrounding public and nonprofit marketing. We invite you to be critical in discussing these changes in the welcoming and inspiring environment of Bournemouth University. The theme of this Congress can be interpreted broadly. Papers can either be empirical, conceptual or practical.
