Creative economy

Track chair: Dr Neelu Seetaram, Bournemouth University

Tourism is a significant contributor to the creative economy with parallels and overlaps also with notions of the ‘knowledge economy’; embracing education at all levels, though primarily with the university and college sector. There are issues of boundaries between economic sectors as defined by Standard Industry Classifications (SICs) and of spill-over effects and value chains linking tourism with creative industry sectors. Creative practitioners and destination marketing agencies also seek to attract recognition on the basis of their creative ‘offer’ as a core element of the attention economy, where businesses and destinations jostle to capture the attention (and spending) of audiences through multiple online and offline media channels.

This conference will provide a rare opportunity for economists and policy-makers working in the parallel and intersecting fields of the Visitor and Creative Economies to share ideas, present and discuss their research.
