Media & Communication work placements and employability

Experience is vital in every industry, but particularly in the fields of media and communications. We believe that taking what you learn on your course and applying it to a relevant work placement is invaluable, which is why we encourage all of our students to spend time working in the industry.

Every one of our undergraduate courses gives you the opportunity to undertake a work placement if you choose, while postgraduate students can opt for formal work placements or other professional engagement opportunities. Having delivered courses in the media and communications sector for over 30 years, we’ve built up a wealth of high-profile industry contacts who frequently visit our campus looking for future talent for their business – and talent could be you!

Placement applications and support

The placement opportunities open to you will depend on the course you’re studying and we will encourage you to find work with a relevant organisation as this may inform your future course experience, dissertation topic and what you want to do after your degree. The length of the placements you undertake can vary in length from a few weeks to a longer placement, typically of a minimum 30-week duration.

Our Careers Service provides a range of support, as well as listing all opportunities on MyCareerHub. Dedicated Faculty Placement Co-ordinators will also provide support and guidance to help you gain relevant work experience using our outstanding industry contacts, and to assist with your application.
