The BU Strategic Plan (2012-18) identified the need to enhance the quality of teaching through the provision of continuing development opportunities for staff. Our TeachBU scheme forms an integral part of this strategy.
By undertaking the TeachBU CPD route, staff are able to apply for professional recognition by the Higher Education Academy (HEA). They will also be able to demonstrate the professionalism that they bring to teaching and support for student learning, as well as being part of a community of colleagues at the university who develop and promote excellence in education.
TeachBU, in line with similar provision in other universities, is based around the HEA’s UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) – a nationally recognised framework for benchmarking success in HE teaching and learning support. It is based around the following three ‘dimensions’:
· The Areas of Activity undertaken by teaching and support staff
· The Core Knowledge required to carry out those activities at the appropriate level
· The Professional Values that individuals performing these activities should exemplify.
All the information you need is in the TeachBU Handbook (Guidance for Applicants) which can be found on the staff intranet along with other documentation. You are not required to attend any formal sessions or workshops, although we recommend meeting with a Faculty Mentor (all of whom have already achieved their HEA Fellowship) to discuss your application.
