Turnitin Feedback Studio

What is the Feedback Studio?

The Feedback Studio is the part of Turnitin that can be used to provide feedback to students on their work. It can be used to annotate student work by adding comments directly to the script (either ad-hoc or from a bank of comments), to give rubric or form-based feedback, and to give overall feedback in text and/or audio form.

Why use the Feedback Studio?

Grade rubrics is a great way of signalling how students have performed against marking criteria. TurnitIn even has an option that allows you to calculate the grade based on your weighted marking criteria - it is automagical!

The Feedback Studio enables you to:

  • mark and grade a written assignment online
  • save time by providing students with accessible, legible feedback
  • keep assignments, papers, comments and grades all in one place.

How to use it

The Feedback Studio is predominantly used for grading assignment submissions made via Turnitin (which can be text or non-text files under 100MB).  However, it can also be used independently as a feedback tool for student work created elsewhere, for example Mahara Portfolios or presentations.

Generic Assessment Rubrics

The BU Generic Assessment Criteria have been reviewed by a cross-faculty working group in consultation with SUBU and AQ and introduced for the 2016-17 academic year. The new version supports feedback for learning and provides both feedback and feedforward statements for each mark band at each academic level from 4 to 7. The policy document, 6F Generic Assessment Criteria Procedure, is available from the staff intranet. It is not intended as the only form of feedback and feedforward that students will receive. Using the rubric can potentially release time to provide more detailed comments, in a variety of formats.
