BU launches #digitechfutures campaign

The #digitechfutures campaign launches today to highlight some of the excellent work taking place at BU in the digital and technological sectors. Aligned to BU2025, the campaign highlights everything from medical technology to visual effects, like BAFTA nominee and BU graduate Andy Kind.

Technology enhanced learning

From lectures delivered by hologram and virtual reality used to train nurses to a new mobile optimised virtual learning environment and cutting edge lecture theatres, find out how BU is leading the way in technology enhanced learning.

From BU to Blue Zoo

BU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor John Vinney visited more than 40 graduates working at Blue Zoo Animation Studios, which was co-founded by BU alumni. The event also featured a panel discussion on talent in the visual effects and animation industries.

BU’s Estate looking to the future

BU has been investing in its Estate, with two flagship buildings being built as a part of BU’s commitment to embed the latest technologies and facilities into learning environments. The Poole Gateway Building, on Talbot Campus, will house green screen rooms, video and sounds studios, while the Bournemouth Gateway Building, on the Lansdowne Campus, will be the new home of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.

Immersive Environments

For as long as mankind has existed, art and design has been used to present ideas, depictions of reality and graphic representations of life. BU academics are working across disciplines on a range of new projects that use digital perceptions of reality to inform, educate and inspire.

Women in coding and the first computer programmer

Find out more about Ada Lovelace – widely regarded as the first computer coder – and how Bournemouth University is encouraging more women to get into coding, including an event which took place as part of International Women’s Day.

Schools Animation Day

As part of Bournemouth University’s #digitechfutures campaign, schools and colleges across the region including St Edward’s School in Poole and Farnborough College were invited to visit BU's Talbot Campus and discover how they could become the animators of the future.

Medical technology

Bournemouth University academics from a broad range of areas are lending their knowledge to the field of medical technology, coming up with solutions to real world problems that are helping the way we deliver healthcare in the UK. One such example is Dr Xiaosong Yang who, along with colleagues, has created a virtual reality simulator to help surgeons train for complicated operations.
