This session is a part of the Digital Futures series forming part of the Skills Development Programme. All sessions under this grouping aim to build digital literacy and an awareness of emerging digital skills gaps in preparation for entering the world of work.
This session will focus on interpreting data and presenting it visually through interactive dashboards.
Our speakers:
Richard Cook – Marsh Commercial, Head of Data & Analytics
I have spent nearly 20 years in IT and I'm passionate about data, analytics and technology!
My path to where I am hasn’t been a straight line. I still recall the 14 year-old me waiting for that Commodore 64 monthly magazine to arrive so I could code a new mini game where one pixel chased another pixel – the graphics weren’t quite what they are now! Move forward a few years and I’m a Microsoft trainer, then an IT support manager, an application developer, a dashboard designer, strategy analyst and analytics lead, and the years merge somewhat along the way. Every role had unique challenges, new colleagues and experts to learn from. They all taught me something and that combined skillset helps me every day. As Head of Data & Analytics I lead a team that champions the strategic value of data. We use technology, business knowledge and experience to find insight in our data, make the complex simple, and help support the business turn insight into action.
I haven’t strayed too far from my teenaged self - I still enjoy coding (Python now), gaming, sci-fi and a passion for the Ford Mustang! I’m happy to chat about these as much as data.
