Interested in a free comics drawing workshop? Throughout the month of July Alexandra P. Alberda will be hosting comics drawing workshops at BU’s Talbot campus. These are in conjunction with the VAST/O exhibition on Graphic Medicine, comics about health and illness experiences. The workshop will begin with a quick look at the exhibition and then a 1.5 hour drawing workshop with a short introduction to Graphic Medicine (child friendly). All supplies are included and you will be sent home with a takeaway to guide you in creating your own comics.
These workshops are open to all families and conversations in relation to health experiences will be age appropriate (adults need to be accompanied by a child and children must be accompanied by an adult). Taking place on Saturday 20 July and Saturday 27 July at 10am - 12pm - book your place via the Eventbrite page. Adult only comics drawing workshops are also scheduled for July.
The VAST/O exhibition will be held in the Atrium Gallery, Poole House, throughout the whole of July 2019.
Curated by Carolina Martins, Natalie Woolf and Alexandra Alberda.
VAST/O aims to be an exhibition that generates the sensations of paradoxical spatial experiences by combining actual and animated spaces, through static and moving images. The use of comics panels in relation with a specific architectural space and the use of animation not only in its traditional channels, but also by means of augmented reality apps for interaction between viewers and spaces, will provide narrative layers that enhance the engagement of the experience.
This is also a part of Alexandra’s research project, so exhibition guests also have the option to share their stories of experiencing the exhibition for research in a short one-on-one interview. This feedback will be used in her PhD thesis as well as by Carolina in influencing the final exhibition in Portugal at the end of this year. If you would like to participate please contact Alexandra at: firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
