The Faculty of Health & Social Sciences comprises 3,800 students and over 200 academic staff across five Departments: Medical Science and Public Health; Midwifery and Health Sciences; Nursing Science; Rehabilitation and Sport Science; and Social Sciences and Social Work.

The Faculty is excelling at providing a future skilled professional workforce, as well as leading research into areas that have societal impact and benefit across the full spectrum of health and social care through our centres of excellence in of orthopaedic research, medical sciences and imaging, midwifery, maternal and perinatal health, social care and ageing and dementia. The departmental structure is designed to provide a platform for future growth in areas of cross-disciplinary research and new course offerings for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Faculty has a thriving academic portfolio and has enjoyed growth in student numbers and research across a wide range of disciplines. The investment in the new Bournemouth Gateway Building is an exciting development at the University which has brought together those working in research, education and practice in health and medical industries and social care services. The Faculty has close links with partner organisations including University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust which received university hospital status in 2020 in recognition of the depth of collaboration in research, education and practice that exists between the two organisations.

Following the launch of our strategic plan, BU2025, and drive for excellence through our approach to fusion, we are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader for the Faculty, to shape and embed the Faculty’s strategy and contribution to Bournemouth University’s continued growth in research and commitment to an excellent student experience.

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, you will be a member of the University Leadership Team. You will provide strong academic, strategic, planning and operational leadership to your Executive Team and across the departments to deliver an excellent student experience through the fusion of education, research and practice.

You will be able to demonstrate a strong academic profile commensurate with that of Professor and be able to show evidence of esteem in a professional context, have significant experience of strategic leadership, and possess the ability to foster collaborative working internally and externally.
