These are generic instructions for Bournemouth University (BU) staff and students on configuring wireless access to eduroam.
NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you first configure and test your device whilst on-site at BU before attempting to use eduroam at a remote location.
The following settings can usually be configured under a control panel for Wireless Network Settings:
Note that if the eduroam network is not currently within range, it is still usually possible to manually configure the device for use with eduroam. You should manually add a network called 'eduroam' (Note all in lower case)
You should configure the following settings if they are available on your device:
Network Name: | / SSID eduroam |
Security type: | WPA2-Enterprise |
Encryption type: | AES |
Authentication method (EAP): | Protected EAP (PEAP) |
Secured Password: | EAP-MSCHAP v2 |
802.1X settings: | User Authentication |
Server name (RADIUS): | eduroam.bournemouth.ac.uk |
Validate Server Certificate: | Yes (or ticked) |
Anonymous identity (outer identity): | [email protected] |
Identity (Username): | [email protected] (i.e. your full BU Username) |
CA Root Certificate: | AddTrust External CA Root (pick from the list on your device) |
If you don't have the CA Root Certificate on your device, you can download it from http://bmth.ac.uk/bu.crt
You should now be able to select the eduroam network in the list of available wireless networks (SSIDs).
When you connect to the eduroam network you will be prompted for your Username and Password. You MUST use your full BU Username, e.g. [email protected] and your BU University password.
