Welcome to BU!
We hope this summary of information will help you make the most of your first few weeks.
You'll also find more detail in the arriving students section of our website.
Register for your course online
If you haven't already registered for your course online, please do it now! It only takes about 20 minutes and means your enrolment session will be completed much faster. It will ask you to pay for, or tell us how you intend to pay for, your tuition fees and check things like the Student Agreement.
Induction & enrolment
This week you'll start your course induction, which includes an introduction to your course, tutors and support staff as well as the opportunity to meet other students on your course.
The main thing to be aware of is that your enrolment session may not be your first activity, so check your registration email for details on where to go first. Check our Week One information for details about what to take to your enrolment session. If you can't find your email and you are unsure where to go for your first activity, contact or visit AskBU.
You will be issued with your timetable this week along with a step-by-step guide to help you set up your timetable in our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Brightspace. Once you've set up your timetable, it can be viewed in the iBU app.
Getting to campus
BU has two campuses - the Lansdowne Campus and the Talbot Campus. You can find directions to Bournemouth and campus maps online, as well as pick up a map from any of our building receptions. Our UNIBUS routes are the U1, U2, U3 and U4. The U1 route connects the Bournemouth Travel Interchange (coach and train station), the Lansdowne Campus and Talbot Campus.
You'll find details of bus stops, routes and times on our iBU app and the UNIBUS website. You can also cycle to either campus - we have a range of secure bike compounds for you to access and keep your bike secure.
Things to do
The Students’ Union at BU (SUBU) offers a huge range of opportunities to take part in events and activities, meet people and socialise. Plus, if you’re interested in sporting activities SportBU offer gym memberships, team sports and a wide range of fitness classes.
How was your arrivals experience?
We'd love to hear about your experiences of arriving here, how prepared we made you feel and how well you're settling in. Our 'arrivals survey' survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and there's a £50 Amazon voucher up for grabs if you choose to enter the prize draw. It's open to all new students who arrived at BU in January 2020. You’ll be able to tell us how you felt about the information and communications you received before you got here, as well as your experience of the first week at BU. All responses are anonymous and your feedback will be really valuable in helping us know what worked well and what could be improved for the future. Complete the survey before the closing date of Friday 28 February.
