During the period of further national restrictions (5 November-2 December), travelling away from home for anything other than essential work or education is not permitted, this includes international travel. The Department for Education has confirmed that international students currently in the UK can return home, subject to any restrictions in place at their destination. Being outside of one’s home for the purposes of outbound travel to one’s country of nationality/residence can be considered essential under these guidelines.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) provides guidance on risks associated with overseas travel, including current restrictions that may be in place as a result of Covid-19. A list of these restrictions by-country can be found on the gov.uk website.
Furthermore, the Government website has a page of travel advice related to travel during Covid-19 restrictions, and the restrictions which may be in place for a particular country you are seeking to travel from/to.
We are advising that all staff/students who are planning to travel, including students looking to return home to another country for the Christmas break, check these pages before confirming any travel arrangements, as well as your own Government or Embassy website to understand these travel restrictions too.
Please make sure you fully understand the restrictions in place for your country, and what self-isolation you may need to undertake when travelling between countries.
