The BU Big Match returns this week, with AFC Bournemouth’s game against Brentford designated to celebrate the partnership between BU and the Cherries.
Bournemouth University is the official higher education partner of AFC Bournemouth, a formal partnership that has existed for over eight years, building on many years of close collaboration and engagement.
The BU Big Match will be different this year, with fans still not allowed to attend matches under current restrictions, therefore, both organisations will be on social media throughout the day celebrating the partnership. You can join in by using the hashtag #BUBigMatch.
In advance of this year’s match, BU students were given the opportunity to engage with two first team players.
England international Jack Wilshere gave journalism and media students the opportunity to test their skills through a mock press conference. Students were able to pose a question to the two-time FA Cup winner with BU Multimedia Journalism student James Gray winning the opportunity for his story to be shared on the afcb.co.uk website.
BU students also had the opportunity to put their questions to AFC Bournemouth and Wales midfielder David Brooks in a separate session focused on nutrition and conditioning. Brooks spoke to students about his career in football, from starting out playing Sunday games as a child in his hometown of Warrington to being picked up by the Manchester City academy and playing for the Wales international team alongside Gareth Bale.

This year’s BU Big Match against Brentford kicks off at 12.30pm at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday 25 April 2021, and will be broadcast on SkyTV and available through AFCBTV for season ticket holders, where a special partnership advert will be played at half time.
