What is the ESRC Festival of Social Science?

The ESRC Festival of Social Science offers a fascinating insight into some of the country's leading social science research and how it influences our social, economic and political lives – both now and in the future. Discover how it shapes public policy and contributes to making the economy more competitive, as well as giving people a better understanding of 21st-century society. 

We’ll be holding events for the public featuring discussions on how young people can build an entrepreneurial mindset and discover how play and gamification can reduce anxiety in children around medical appointments.

Demystifying NFTs: Understanding the law and technology

Medical monsters: reducing medical anxiety through play and gamification

How to become a young entrepreneur - a workshop

A free workshop, open to young people aged 15-24 and accompanying adults. Whether you'd like to start your own business or not, you could benefit from entrepreneurial skills. This free workshop will teach entrepreneurial, career and business soft skills to help boost your employability. You could leave with the knowledge and confidence to start your own business!

Supporting young entrepreneurs in the community

An event for those working with young people in, for example, community and welfare organisations, charities, education (including teachers and college lecturers), business or policy for young people and education. Discover what a new project called SPEED-You-UP, designed to support young people in their career and potential entrepreneurship, could do for your work in developing young people and how you could help bring it to your community.

Youth Entrepreneurship Skills - An Exhibition

Not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur, but entrepreneurial skills can not only help young people to start their own businesses, they can also help boost their employability. Join this event to find out how young people can build an entrepreneurial mindset.

This exhibition shares the experiences of young people and school staff who are involved in a project called SPEED-You-UP, tested around Europe. It’s all about the benefits these young people have experienced and the perspectives of the school staff who could see these benefits and reflect on the practicality of implementing the programme. Drop in at any time, no registration required, to learn more and see how it could be brought to help young people in Bournemouth.

Are drones the future of delivery?

If predictions about the future of deliveries are correct, we might start seeing a lot more drones in our skies. But how do you feel about this? How much do you actually know about drones and how they will be used? Join us to learn more and play a custom-designed board game, to explore how we’ll make decisions about drones in our future.

Don’t get scammed online

Being scammed online is often seen as a problem for older people, but young people can fall victim to scams too. This workshop helps young people think about their online experience and learn how to avoid being scammed.
