How to report a Covid positive test and the support available

Reporting a Covid-19 positive test 

If you are symptomatic and/or have received a positive test result for Covid-19 and are staying in the local area, do please ensure that you report this via email to covid@bournemouth.ac.uk. If you are clinically vulnerable or extremely clinically vulnerable, you should make us aware at the time of reporting. 

You will receive a support call from a member of our emergency Covid Response Team who are continuing to monitor messages to this email address. If you are in need of emergency support with obtaining essential supplies such as food or medicines, please telephone our emergency contact number on 01202 962222 where your details will be taken and passed to our out of hours Welfare Duty Officer who will follow up with you. Isolating essentials

You must follow the government guidelines for self-isolating. During this time you must not leave your accommodation for a minimum of 10 days or until you feel better if longer. If you are resident in student halls, and have not yet done so, please notify your Halls Manager that you have confirmed Covid-19. If you have not yet informed the other people you live with then please do so and ask them to self-isolate in accordance with government guidelines and share this information sheet.  

The government’s NHS Test and Trace team may contact you for details of those that you have been in close contact with, and may then advise those contacts to isolate. Please start to compile a list of these in case they are needed. If your contacts do not live with you and are not advised by the NHS Test and Trace team to isolate, then they may interact with others as normal.  

If you have a part-time job you should also make your employer aware. This is particularly important if you work in a health or social care setting  

If you are out on placement you should also make your placement provider aware and follow any policies or procedures they might have. You should also make contact with your BU Placement Development Adviser to discuss any implications there might be for your placement work.

Keeping well during isolation

During isolation, you may need to obtain food or medicines. If you are unwell it is particularly important that you drink lots of fluids and eat as healthily as you can. All the major supermarkets offer a home delivery service and you may find the following links useful. Please note that some supermarkets have a minimum spend and some charge for delivery. Most chemists are able to arrange delivery of medicines if you register for the home delivery service. Alternatively, you could ask a friend or flatmate if they are able to help. You can find a list of local pharmacies at www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-pharmacy 

If despite exploring other options you are still unable to obtain essential food or medicines please contact the University’s emergency number 01202 962222, where your details will be passed on to our out of hours Welfare Duty Officer who will arrange for these to be picked up on your behalf and delivered to you. Payment will be via vouchers which can be bought online from the following retailers:  

 

Your mental wellbeing during your time in isolation

If you are worried about the impact the current situation is having on your wellbeing, especially during your period of self-isolation, we are here to support you and there are a range of wellbeing services available to offer wellbeing advice and support.  

  • Connection on 0300 1235440 - 24/7 access to mental health advice and support for all ages - part of the Dorset Crisis Response Service.   
  • The Samaritans provide confidential, non-judgemental, emotional support 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. You can call the Samaritans free anytime on 116 123 or, if you are worried about being overheard on the phone, you can email jo@samaritans.org
  • Student Space provides free, trusted information, tools and services to help you navigate the unique challenges to student life during the coronavirus pandemic. The support provided by Student Space is safe, confidential and developed with students and experts in student wellbeing and mental health. However, you’re feeling help and guidance is available. Visit the Student Space website or phone free on 0808 189 5260 from 4pm to 11pm,  text ‘STUDENT’ to 85258 for 24/7 support, email students@themix.org.uk or webchat - 4pm to 11pm every day. 
  • Togetherall is an online mental health support service available 24/7, and is completely anonymous so you can express yourself freely and openly. Access to this service is free to all BU students - you'll need to register the first time you use the service but this is really quick to do. Professionally trained Wall Guides monitor the community to ensure the safety and anonymity of all members. To sign up simply go to Togetherall and click on ‘Register’. You'll need to enter a few details under the ‘organisation’ section, but all details will remain completely anonymous. You should also set up a username that can't be identified to you. ​
