Learning Analytics - FAQs

Learning Analytics combines different types of data regarding student engagement and learning to better understand and improve the student experience.

Using Learning Analytics data along with other data currently collected from different sources such as Brightspace and your assessments and exam marks/grades we will be able to get a better idea of how your learning is progressing. You can then work with your Personal Tutor and other teaching staff to decide how we can best support you to achieve your goals and reach your full potential here at BU.

• Physical engagement via Checkin which is a tool used to capture attendance at BU learning sessions
• Virtual engagement via Brightspace​
• Assignment and exam marks/results via SITS, the student records system.

You will need a smart phone, tablet or laptop and you will need to take one of these devices to all of your taught sessions.

Study Goal is the student Learning Analytics platform

• Using your smart phone, tablet or laptop visit the Study Goal website at https://bournemouth.studygoal.jisc.ac.uk and save your log in credentials on your device.
• Sign in with your BU IT account username (e.g. s1234567) and your password

You can access Study Goal at any point after Monday 12 September 2022 and during induction. We strongly recommend you do this before teaching begins on Monday 26 September 2022. Bookmark the Study Goal site in your browser for quick access or add it as a button on your home screen on your smart phone or tablet.

You will be able to view the history of your attendance in Study Goal. 

The use of student data will comply with relevant university policies and procedures, in alignment with GDPR requirements as stated in the Student Privacy Notice and the Privacy notice for JISC Learning Analytics Services. 

Checkin is the attendance capture tool in the Study Goal platform. It captures your attendance at lectures/seminars and other taught sessions.

• Visit the Study Goal website at https://bournemouth.studygoal.jisc.ac.uk.
• Sign in with your BU IT account username and your password.
• Enter the 4 digit code and click CHECKIN
