Media industries are continually evolving in a fast-paced world. Our short courses are designed to meet the needs of industry professionals and are delivered by experienced academics and practitioners. We constantly assess and develop our courses to ensure content keeps pace with current industry trends, developments and issues.
All of our courses are delivered by the Faculty of Media & Communication, alongside the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP) and endorsed by Creative Skillset. They have attracted attendees from organisations such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Pearson International, FreemantleMediaUK and NESTA, as well as freelancers working in the media and creative industries, both in the UK and internationally.
How you will study
Designed to fit around the work of media professionals, the courses are structured as an initial two day creative retreat where you engage with your academic team and fellow students to explore the themes and concepts for the specific course. You then continue to develop your knowledge over seven further weeks utilising an online learning environment and discussion forums, culminating in an academic assignment (equivalent to 5000 words). On successful completion of this assignment, you will be awarded 20 academic credits (level 7 – Masters/Postgraduate level).
Our courses can be taken individually or in combination with a tailored selection of other courses from the framework to achieve a recognised postgraduate qualification. You can use your credits to build your own tailored Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Master's.

As an owner of a creative agency, the flexibility of the BYOMA programme enabled me to transform my thinking whilst running and growing my business. The creative management courses have been impactful to our operations and our bottom line. I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to enhance their creativity and management methods.”
Rupert Cocke, Spanish Bureau Chief, Acuris Group
I found the short courses very insightful and interesting. The highlights for me were learning more about what makes the media different from other industries and finding out about reflective practice."
Monica Harris, BBC Radio 3, Production Coordinator
I really enjoyed my study visits to Bournemouth – the sea air was a real boost, along with all the ‘brain food’ in the teaching. The sessions were so interesting and the people I met in them are friends to this day! Working independently with the online community as my back up worked well too. It made it easy to fit study around a busy job. “
