Bournemouth University International Summer School

Join us at a globally focused university located on the beautiful south coast of England. Strengthen your subject knowledge, improve your English language and experience student life in a safe, friendly and cosmopolitan environment.

Do you want to have a two-week study abroad experience in the UK this summer? If so, we've put together a complete package that will give you a chance to develop subject knowledge, experience British university life, make new friends, and enjoy a great cultural experience.

Our two-week course is open to all current university/college students and graduates. These courses are a great introduction to studying at an English speaking university. You will need to be at least 18 years of age to apply, and see below about the English language requirements for this course.

What you can expect

  • 15 hours of class and workshop time each week
  • Small class sizes, usually no more than 20 students
  • Social, sport and fun activities
  • Organised trips to London, Stonehenge and the Jurassic Coast
  • An educational visit to a British company
  • Accommodation and meals included
  • Use of relevant university facilities, including free Wi-Fi
  • Free airport transfers*.

*Offered during specified time period on arrival day. If you are arriving outside this time, we are happy to arrange alternative transport with additional fees.

This course will be delivered by expert academics from the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business)-accredited Business School.

Academics from our Business School will introduce you to the following topics:

Animation & Arts

This course will be delivered at the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA), an internationally recognised Centre of Excellence.

Academics from the University and NCCA will introduce you to the following topics:

    • Computer animation and visual effects project briefing
    • Motion capture Lecture, studio and workshop
    • Visual Effects, Look Development lecture and compositing workshop
    • Physics-based simulation and animation techniques
    • Tutorial for post-production
    • Project rendering and submission
    • London Animation Company/studio Visit
  • English for  academic and business purposes
  • Studying and working in the UK

Making friends

Bournemouth is a very lively and cosmopolitan town, there will be lots of ways to enjoy yourself and relax away from your studies. During your time in Bournemouth we will organise activities to help you settle in and make new friends. You will have time to enjoy games on the beach, sightseeing trips to London and places of historical and cultural interest.

Every Friday night throughout the summer there is a free firework display over Bournemouth Pier which is an amazing sight to see!

English language requirements for joining the Summer School

Students will need at least an intermediate level of English (equivalent to IELTS 5.5) in order to understand the lectures, which are delivered at undergraduate level, and to engage in lively discussion in the seminars and tutorials.

Fees

Fees 2019: £1,950 if payment is received by 30 April 2019, or £2,200 for payment after this date.

  • 15 hours per week tuition by university subject lecturers

What's not included in the fees?

  • Visa application fees (if applicable)
  • International airfare
  • Travel to and from the airport in your home country
  • Insurance
  • Personal spending money

You will be sent information about how to pay fees when you have accepted the offer of a place on the course. A letter of registration will be provided for visa purposes when you have paid the full fees. Please note that refunds of accommodation and course fees are made only at the discretion of the university. 

Where you will stay

You will stay in Bournemouth University campus accommodation with a range of catering options provided. You will have a single room with a shared shower and toilet, and shared laundry facilities are available. Broadband is available in every room and there is Wi-Fi throughout the campus.
