Welcome

Welcome events for international students

Coming to study in a new country for the first time can be challenging and we want to help you settle in and start enjoying your time at BU as quickly as possible.

We know that every student is different. Of course, if you’re arriving in the UK for the first time, you might need a bit of extra help and you will probably have more questions than a student who is already familiar with living in the UK.

There’s a huge programme of exciting events for you to join in with and we hope you’ll come along to a variety of different activities. You’ll need to spend a bit of time planning what you want to do as there’s so much to choose from and you’ll have induction activities for your course to fit in too!

More useful information for new students can be found in our Arrivals pages.

On the main arrivals days we’ve organised the following activities that might be of particular interest to you if you’re a new international student:

“New to the UK” workshops

Friday 20 September 16:30 – 18:00 Ground Floor Café, EBC*

Saturday 21 September 16:00 – 18:00 FG06, Fusion Building, Talbot Campus

Sunday 22 September 14:30 – 16:00 Ground Floor Café, EBC*

You’ll find our “New to the UK” welcome events really helpful if you haven’t lived in the UK before and you want some friendly advice about the practical things that you need to organise in your first few days in Bournemouth. These events are also a great way to meet other new international students who will understand how you’re feeling!

We recommend that you attend the event that takes place on the day you arrive, or the next day. (You only need to attend once).

You’ll get:

  • A warm welcome
  • Basic information about:
    • How to use the local and university buses
    • Where to shop
    • Tips for overcoming homesickness
    • Key events and activities in your first week at BU
    • Ideas for places to go to meet other new students and make friends.
  • A chance to ask questions.
