Welcome events for international students

Coming to study in a new country can be challenging and we want to help you settle in and start enjoying your time at BU as quickly as possible. Every January we run workshops, lectures and seminars to provide additional support for our international students when they arrive.

International Orientation Day

On Wednesday 29 January 2020 there will be an Orientation Day for international students:

  • Talbot Campus Tour
  • Overview of BU support services and facilities (your chance to ask questions and find out about the wide range of support available to you)
  • Police, British Law and your personal safety: an introduction to aspects of British law which may affect your daily life in the UK, as well as some important tips to make sure you stay safe whilst you are living here
  • Workshops on Cultural Transition and British Culture
  • Question and Answer session with current international students
  • A SUBU International Students Fair (meet your Students’ Union)
  • Free UNIBUS travel for Lansdowne-based postgraduate students (collect at enrolment or from your programme support team office in EB401, Executive Business Centre, Lansdowne Campus)*.

Visit the International Orientation Day programme for full details.

International Welcome Reception

You are also invited to attend our International Welcome Reception. This event formally welcomes all our new students  to BU and celebrates the beginning of your journey as a BU student. Join the Vice-Chancellor, BU staff from your faculty and other departments, special guests and other students to enjoy dinner and welcome speeches.

The event is split over two dates according to your faculty/student group:

Wednesday 29 January
Faculty of Management.

Thursday 30 January
Faculty of Science & Technology, Faculty of Media & Communication, Faculty of Health & Social Sciences, Doctoral College, Study Exchange & Study Abroad Students.

This event is free of charge but you must register for your ticket in advance.

You can tell us about any dietary requirements you may have when you book your ticket.

Please don’t forget to bring your electronic ticket, on your mobile phone on the day, so we can scan your ticket.

We look forward to seeing you there.

* Temporary one-day voucher for travel on the U1 and U4 buses. Route map available from the UNIBUS website. Only valid on 29 January 2020.
