Self-funded MRes projects

The projects advertised on this page have been created by academic staff at BU to complete specified research projects. These projects are available to students who can fund their degree themselves. We’re looking for exceptional students whose research interests complement our areas of research strength.

Who is eligible to apply for an MRes?

The MRes is open to UK & Overseas candidates, who must demonstrate outstanding qualities and be motivated to complete an MRes in 18 months full-time.

Candidates must demonstrate outstanding academic potential with preferably an upper-second class honours degree or equivalent Grade Point Average. An IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 minimum (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) is essential for candidates for whom English is not their first language.

In addition to satisfying basic entry criteria, BU will look closely at the qualities, skills and background of each candidate and what they can bring to their chosen research project in order to ensure successful completion.

What else will we look for?

Each MRes has its own criteria that candidates need to fulfil, in terms of knowledge and/or expertise. In addition, we will look closely at your qualities, skills and background to determine what you could bring to a specific research project.

How can I apply for an MRes?

There are individual application deadlines for each MRes project, which are detailed on each project page. To apply, click the green Apply Now button on the project page and complete our online application form. More information can be found on our How to apply pages.

If none of our MRes self-funded projects are of interest to you, you can still apply to do an MRes in a subject of your choice if it fits with our individual faculty research themes. To find out more please view our Postgraduate research courses.
