I have completed my qualitative study on the perceptions of older people about their social participation in the online world, and I am so delighted to share with you that my PhD journey ended successfully.

My study concluded that older people are moving away from the 'Grey digital divide' and started integrating technology into their lives. However, there are areas that they still need support and my study recommended a few ways to support older people to include them in the online world. Different categories of online world older users were identified in my study. Furthermore, my study found that subjective well-being and social connectedness are improved by the use of the online world in older people.

My Ph.D. journey was a long, tiring, and difficult one. However, I received very strong support from my supervisory team including Dr Jaqui Hewitt-Taylor, Prof. Carol Bond, and Prof Sarah Hean. No words could explain the way they supported me through my ups and downs. I am so grateful to them. I thank everyone at BU who supported me throughout. I just want to remind all PhD students “Never stop trying, never stop believing, never give up. Your day will come” (Anonymous). If I can make it, you can too.

Good luck!
