Yana

Bulgaria-born Yana Miladinova talks about her work placement experience.

“My placement was at Red Setter, a business-to-business PR and Marketing agency in Brighton working across the creative industry.

“I started as a PR & Marketing Intern but was promoted to PR Account Executive after six months. At first, I learned the main admin skills such as tracking coverage, creating media lists and quarterly reports. Once I gained more knowledge about the trade media, I started looking for newsjacking/media opportunities for the clients and drafting press releases. I was also responsible for managing the website and social media accounts of the agency.

“Red Setter works with agencies from all over the world, and I learned how to communicate with journalists from America, Australia, Asia, and the UK. Working closely with their media consultants taught me valuable lessons for my future career as a PR practitioner and improved my writing and time management skills.

“Representing the agency at conferences and industry events was scary at first, but I further developed my networking skills and met amazing people. That encouraged me to create my own website to capture the experience. It resulted in some personal achievements such as being featured on PR Place’s weekly round-ups for best PR blogs.”
