Games development labs

Our dedicated PC games development labs (5 in total, including one in the new, state of the art Fusion Building) for the BSc (Hons) Games Design keep up with the high standards and specifications of the games industry with frequent updates of software and hardware, ensuring you’re ready for work after graduation.

Although the labs are primarily used for teaching and games development, there’s occasional room for other exciting extra curricular opportunities. For example, the labs have hosted numerous games jam competitions, some of which are in fact open to external visitors as well as students from other BU departments and even other universities. The jams we have had have ranged from internal ones, Global Game Jam sessions and even a jam event backed by Creative England, a not-for-profit organisation that invests in creativity, who provided the prizes and also judges from the industry.

Along with the aforementioned high-speed PCs for games development, our labs are equipped with:

•       A dual-monitor set up (very useful for work such as 3D modelling for example)

•       Display cabinets full of retro games consoles

•       HD projectors

•       Industry-standard tools such as Maya, Unreal engine, Unity engine, Substance Painter, Zbrush and many others
