Health check

Available to all BU students and staff, our health check is an informative and non-invasive way to learn about your current health and fitness levels, assessing, in particular, your body fat, muscle mass and hydration levels.

If you are a Premium SportBU member, your health check is free of charge. This can be booked directly at our reception, or we hold regular drop-in sessions throughout the academic year too.

For all other SportBU memberships, our health check is available at a one-off cost of £10.

What to expect

Your health check will take place with a member of the SportBU team in a private assessment room.

Once we’ve asked you a few questions about your current activity levels, we’ll make a note of your height and weight and attach pads (which are connected to our Bodystat machine) to your hands and feet.

Then, a number of readings will be taken which, within a minute, will give an indication of your health and fitness (and if you are within certain parameters for your height and weight). If you aren’t, your SportBU consultant will advise on how to reach your optimum health and fitness levels.


Health referrals

If you are suffering from a low mood on an occasional or regular basis, then exercise (which releases chemicals that boost how you feel), may help to improve this.

Our team of Student Wellbeing Advisors may suggest that you could benefit from an appointment with a SportBU Exercise Referral Consultant who can support you with a number of things, including a personalised exercise programme, nutrition advice, group exercise or certain sports sessions.
