The course examines the diplomatic and geopolitical dimensions of disaster and crisis management, enabling you to critically assess the challenges involved in formulating and implementing effective foreign policy responses.
Through engaging case studies, you will analyse complex emergencies such as the conflict in Yemen, alongside major international disasters including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, and Hurricane Katrina. These real-world examples will help you understand how political, strategic, and institutional factors influence global disaster response.
By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the analytical skills to evaluate international policy responses and better understand the role of diplomacy in managing crises on a global scale.
Please note: this 5-day course, which is also a module (Foreign Policy Analysis & Crisis Management) within the Masters in Resilience and Disaster Management Programme, can be taken as a non-accredited CPD course. This option allows you to complete the course without undergoing the assignment process required for the MSc programme.
