You can apply for any of our taught postgraduate courses (MA, MSc, MBA, LLM) directly through BU using myHub, our online application portal, with the exception of: MA Social Work, MSc Adult Nursing, MSc Mental Health Nursing and MSc/PG Dip Physician Associate Studies, where you have to apply through the UCAS website.
Some of our degrees have a January and a September intake, giving you more flexibility over when you study.
If you are interested in applying for a postgraduate research degree, please visit the Doctoral College pages for more information.
How to apply for a postgraduate taught course
To apply for a postgraduate taught course, go to the course page that you’re interested in and click the ‘Apply now’ button. You will then be taken to our online application portal, myHub.
Applications for the following courses must be completed through the UCAS website.
- MA Social Work
- MSc Adult Nursing
- MSc Mental Health Nursing
- MSc/PG Dip Physician Associate Studies.
You should apply as early as possible to be considered for your course of choice. If you require a student visa, apply for the visa as soon as you have an unconditional offer and receive your CAS. There may be delays in visa processing in your country and you need to be in Bournemouth ready to study for the start of term. Please see the 'Applications from international students who require a student visa' section below for more information.
After we receive a fully completed application, BU will aim to make you an offer as soon as possible. Courses requiring additional selection measures such as interviews may take a little longer. Please note that December and January are one of our busiest application periods and therefore it may take us a little longer to process incoming applications.
Applications from international students who require a student visa
We are unable to release a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) until the deposit of £5,000 is fully received and confirmed by our Finance Department, which can take up to ten working days. We recommend the use of Flywire for any payments, as they come to the university quicker than bank transfers. Please refer to your offer letter for the deposit payment deadline. For information, visit our How to pay your deposit page. All outstanding actions within myHub must also be completed for the CAS to be issued.
Applying for the next available intake - Simply go to the course page that you’re interested in and click ‘Apply now’. You will then be taken to our online application portal, myHub.
If you require a student visa to study in the UK, you will need a CAS statement. It is therefore important that you complete all outstanding actions relating to your offer without delay. This may include the payment of a deposit of £5,000 to secure your place on the course. Only once the deposit payment has been received and all actions have been completed, a CAS can be released.
Entry requirements for international students – These vary by course and level of study, so check the course pages for specific information as well as our Entry Requirements page and English Language Requirements page. If you have further questions about your qualifications, please contact our International Admissions Team.
It is important you submit a completed application including all the required documents so that we can make a decision on your application without unnecessary delays.
We understand that in some cases you may not yet have completed a qualification or been issued with a final certificate. In such cases, there will be outstanding actions listed on your offer letter.
The documents required in support of most postgraduate applications are the following:
- Copy of your final degree certificate and transcripts
- English language qualification
- Personal statement
- At least one academic reference (or a professional reference if you have graduated more than 2 years ago)
- Copy of your current passport.
Once you have firmly accepted your offer and paid any applicable deposit, we will send you an Enroly CAS Shield invitation by email (from 1 October onwards for the January intake, and 1 April onwards for the September intake). Enroly CAS Shield is the online self-service system that enables you to upload all the vital information and documents we require before issuing your CAS.
I'm a current BU student/recent BU graduate
Final year BU students and recent BU graduates looking to study further with a postgraduate taught qualification can complete the shorter Fast Track application form. We recommend you apply as early as possible to ensure there is space on your course of interest.
Using myHub, BU’s online application portal
You will need to create an account on myHub and complete the application form. You will be able to save the form as you go, so you can return to it at as many times as you want before you submit it. The form is split into tabbed sections, and as you complete each of the tabbed sections, they will turn green. Only click submit once all of your tabs are highlighted green.
As an applicant, it is important that you access and log into myHub regularly for information and communication about your application. The login details to your myHub account are sent to you via email soon after your application has been received.
If you need help logging in or cannot remember your log-in details, contact our IT Service Desk on +44 (0)1202 965515 or via the IT Services website.
Evidence of qualifications
We may ask you to provide evidence of your qualifications when you apply to study with us. Please do not send us the originals - we only require copies to assess your application. If you are successful, you will need to bring the original documents or transcripts with you to enrolment.
If you are applying for a course based on your professional experience, you should include this experience as part of your application.
References
We will ask you to supply the details of a referee. Our preference is for an academic reference but if you are unable to provide this a professional reference may be acceptable. We will contact them to request references as part of your application.
Awaiting exam results
You can still apply for a postgraduate course with us if you are waiting for exam results, or have yet to take your exams. You simply need to make sure you clearly state when you are taking your exams and when you expect to receive your results on your application, please remember to upload your current transcript.
Visas and immigration
If you will need a visa to come to the UK to study at a postgraduate level, think carefully about the length of time it will take for your visa application to be processed and make sure your visa will be ready in time for the beginning of your course.
Enroly CAS Shield is an online system which guides you through your CAS preparation process and notifies you where to upload all documents required for the release of your CAS. It can take some time to complete all the steps and for your documents to be verified, so we recommend you begin the process as soon as possible, once you receive the CAS Shield login request. For further information about the process please visit our CAS Shield step-by-step guide webpage.
We have put together some information and advice about immigration and visas and our International Admissions Team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
We also have a number of official representatives in countries around the world who can assist you with your application and who you can talk to about postgraduate study in the UK.
