How to apply

How to apply for a postgraduate taught course

You can apply for any of our taught postgraduate courses (MA, MSc, MBA, LLM) directly through BU, with the exception of MA Social Work, MSc Adult Nursing and MSc Mental Health Nursing where you have to apply through UCAS.

Simply go to the course page that you’re interested in and click ‘Apply now’. You will then be taken to our online application portal, myHub.

You will need to create an account and complete the application form. You can save the form as you go, enabling you to return to it at as many times as you want before you submit it. The form is split into tabbed sections. As you complete each of the tabbed sections they will turn green - only click submit once all of your tabs are highlighted green.

There is no formal deadline to apply for taught postgraduate courses with us, but we recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible. Some of our degrees have a January intake as well as September, giving you more flexibility over when you study.

Are you a current BU student?

Final year BU students looking to study further with a postgraduate taught qualification can complete the Fast Track application form. There's no need to make a separate application!

Evidence of qualifications

We may ask you to provide evidence of your qualifications when you apply to study with us. Please do not send us the originals - we only require copies to assess your application. If you are successful, you will need to bring the original documents or transcripts with you to enrolment.

If you are applying for a course based on your professional experience, you should include this experience as part of your application.

We will ask you to supply the details of a referee. Our preference is for an academic reference but if you are unable to provide this a professional reference may be acceptable. We will contact them to request references as part of your application.

Awaiting exam results

You can still apply for a postgraduate course with us if you are waiting for exam results, or have yet to take your exams. You simply need to make sure you clearly state when you are taking your exams and when you expect to receive your results on your application.

Visas and immigration

If you will need a visa to come to the UK to study at a postgraduate level, think carefully about the length of time it will take for your visa application to be processed and make sure your visa will be ready in time for the beginning of your course.

We have put together some information and advice about immigration and visas and our International Admissions Team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We also have a number of official representatives in countries around the world who can assist you with your application and who you can talk to about postgraduate study in the UK.

What happens next?

Once you have applied for postgraduate study, we will consider your application based on all of the information and evidence provided. As people come to postgraduate study from a range of backgrounds, we don’t only look at academic qualifications – we will also consider your work experience and the reference provided by your referee. We will keep you informed of the progress of your application. To ensure all our emails get through to you, please add the domain to your safe senders list.
