My research aimed to develop a framework to support the understanding of industrial design research practice based on the self-understandings of industrial design research practitioners while being cognisant of the historical and social structures influencing this practice.

The framework titled Navigating Difference, maps the structural elements, the research approach, positions and pathways of industrial design research practitioners as evidenced in the study.

I am a lecturer and research supervisor in the Institute of Technology, Carlow in Ireland and the initial impetus for undertaking this research was driven by my personal aspiration to develop a deeper understanding of industrial design research practice in support of this role. My career plans are to continue in this role while progressing my research and supervision experience.
