A work placement for every student

Experience is vital in every industry, but particularly in the fields of media and communications. We believe that taking what you learn on your course and applying it to a relevant work placement is invaluable, which is why we encourage all of our students to spend time working in the industry.

Every one of our undergraduate courses gives you the chance to undertake a work placement and as we’ve been delivering courses in media and communications sector for over 30 years, we’ve built up a wealth of high-profile industry contacts.

Many of the organisations we work with request our placement students year on year because of the knowledge and skills they develop in the early stages of their degrees.

Placement opportunities

The placement opportunities open to you will depend on the course you’re studying and we will encourage you to find work with a relevant organisation. The length of the placements you undertake can vary in length from a few weeks to a full academic year (40 weeks). Some of our courses include mandatory 40-week placements, while for others this is optional.

Among the organisations that our students have worked for in the past are the BBC, Disney, BMW, IBM, the Independent, Cosmopolitan, Sony, Lenovo, Beauty Seen PR and many more. 

Placements are not only a fantastic opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice, but also to make valuable connections within the industry. Making a good impression during your placement can open all kinds of doors and may even result in a job offer when you graduate. 

Overseas opportunities

We will also encourage you to look for work placements abroad, giving you the opportunity to experience a different culture and country, as well as gaining valuable experience in your chosen area.

We also have study exchange agreements with our partner universities across Europe, the USA and Asia, providing you with alternative ways of gaining experience and making connections. 

Placement team

We have dedicated Faculty Placement Co-ordinators who are on hand to help you find relevant work experience using our outstanding industry contacts, and to assist with your application. While all of the vacancies we have are advertised on our internal placements and careers website MyCareerHub.

Our team can help you build connections with local, national and international organisations in your area of expertise, giving you the opportunity to undertake highly relevant and truly valuable work experience during your studies.


Employers always want graduates with the proven ability to jump straight into work, and undertaking one, or more, placements during your degree will mean that you can do just that. Our courses are designed in conjunction with industry leaders, ensuring that our course content is always up to date and relevant.

When you combine this with the practical experience of going on a work placement, you will be highly employable on graduation, not to mention have contacts in the industry who could help you find work. We have excellent graduate employment rates across our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees - on over half of our courses, 90% or more of our students are in work or further study six months after finishing their degree.
