Kaji Sherpa
BA (Hons) Hospitality Management
I decided to undertake a degree because after completing my A levels, I reached a stage in life where I want to take on a new challenge. I chose Bournemouth University because the School of Tourism is very highly regarded, strengthened by its relationship with industry all over the world. Bournemouth University is recognised internationally as a leading provider of undergraduate and postgraduate management courses.
I have a dream to manage my own Hotel business in the future and I know that studying Hospitality will enable me to develop the skills needed to fulfil my vision. The course has provided me the opportunity to develop skills in both practical as well as theoretical aspects of the hospitality industry. My degree requires me to undertake hospitality training at the ‘The Retreat’ at Bournemouth University, a practical training experience which includes front of house, back of house, beverage preparation, health and safety, risk assessment, basic food hygiene and managerial training. This has certainly been the best thing about my course, taking responsibility for the business performance of the restaurant, as well as maintaining high standards of food, service, and health and safety alongside groups of close friends has never been more fun. Moreover, it enabled me to understand business from a manager’s perspective and have good business awareness.
Outside of my studies, I enjoy most sports and have participated in many sports tournaments for tennis, swimming, karate, basketball, football and cricket. At BU there are a vast range of sporting activities and the facilities are more than enough to accommodate my non-academic needs. I am an active member of sportBU and I have taken part in many clubs such as Street Dance, Break Dance, Basketball and Body Building.
Bournemouth is one of the main tourist destinations in UK and there is no doubt that is also a fantastic place to study and live. It’s close to beach, close to town, has excellent study facilities i.e. 24 hour access to computers and study equipment, extensive library resources, very convenient bus services and an amazing night life.
