To study with us at undergraduate level, there are certain criteria you will need to meet. Each course has its own entry requirements, so check our course pages. You’ll see the overall UCAS Tariff points required for the course as well as details on how to achieve the points; for example from three A-levels or equivalent, along with GCSE requirements.

How the UCAS Tariff works

UCAS tariff points are calculated based on the type of qualification you have and the grade or level you achieve. For example, for each A grade that you get at A-level, you’ll be awarded 48 UCAS tariff points (equivalent to PPP at BTEC Extended Diploma), and for every B grade you get 40 points (and so on). You can find full details about the Tariff points system on the UCAS website.

At BU, we welcome applications from students with T-level qualifications and you will be considered using the UCAS Tariff. Where applicable, subject requirements for individual courses will be considered. Please visit our course pages for more information on entry requirements for each course.

We do not accept equivalent UCAS tariff points for the International Baccalaureate. We may also specify that you need certain grades, experience or to have studied required subjects as part of the entry requirement for a specific course. See the UCAS Tariff Table below for more details.

Foundation Years

A number of our courses offer a Foundation Year option for those who do not meet the entry requirements for the full degree. This additional year of study will give you a grounding in your chosen subject, building your confidence, knowledge and skills for further study. After successful completion of the Foundation Year, you will progress to the full degree.

If you apply to study the degree course and do not meet the academic entry requirements, our Admissions Team may consider your application for the Foundation Year and notify you accordingly. If you are an international student and ineligible to apply for a Bachelor's degree (e.g. your qualification is not equivalent to UK A-levels), we offer an international foundation programme.
