Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (Part-time)

The Active IQ Certificate in Personal Training will give you the knowledge and skills to work with individual and groups of clients in a personal training setting. Successful achievement of the qualification will allow you to gain employment within an organisational setting or alternatively in a self-employed environment.

This qualification is delivered by Bournemouth University's academy of performance coaching and will provide entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 3.

The academy is a training provider for nationally recognised Active IQ industry required qualifications for health and fitness. The blended learning programme allows you to complete most of your theoretical study in your own time (you will need access to a computer and the internet) with attendance at Bournemouth University for practical workshops and exams.

Entry requirements:

A suitable Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing (recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals) is required and a degree of physical fitness is necessary. You should also have a good level of communication and numeracy skills

Course details

This course is part-time and will run over 5 weekends.

During this course you'll be furthering your knowledge of the human body and enhancing your skills as a personal trainer by studying for the following units.

If you have studied an Active IQ Level 2 course then you will have already achieved units 1, 2 and 3. In order to achieve the full personal training certificate you must achieve units 4, 5, 6 and 7:

  • Unit 1 - Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity (M/600/9015)
  • Unit 2 - Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment (T/600/9016)
  • Unit 3 - Principles of exercise, fitness and health (A/600/9017)
  • Unit 4 - Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health (A/600/9051)
  • Unit 5 - Programming personal training with clients (F/600/9052)
  • Unit 6 - Delivering personal training sessions (J/600/9053)
  • Unit 7 - Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme (L/600/9054).

Assessment includes: 

  • Coursework
  • Multiple choice examinations
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical demonstration.
