Archaeology and anthropology allow us to explore how humans lived and died, in traditional and forensic contexts, by examining the physical remains of the individuals and their activities.

Your study at BU will be supported by a dynamic community of highly qualified and experienced scientists, scholars, and research and support staff. They recognise that our postgraduate qualifications in these subjects give students a wide array of skills that increase employability in many varied professions, and we are proud of the high-quality graduates we produce.

We have been delivering archaeology degrees for over 50 years, which demonstrates our commitment and contribution to this subject. The Department has world-class teaching and research facilities, equipment and collections. As a result of the high levels of practical teaching that are a hallmark of our Master’s programmes, they are seen by employers as world-leading in terms of professional practice.

We regularly host international conferences and are situated close to some of Britain’s most iconic archaeological sites and historic landscapes, including the rich coastal heritage of the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site.
