The Training Zone
Our lively on-site gym, The Training Zone, is a welcoming and supportive environment to exercise in – whatever your fitness level or ability.
It’s packed full of state-of-the art kit equipment and areas to exercise in, all geared towards your individual fitness plan.
To start off your workout, our core and stretch ‘pods’ give you the space to warm up, cool down or work in small groups. We also have a functional training area with various bands, balls and bodyweight exercises.
Then, you can take your pick from our cardiovascular (CV) equipment, fixed resistance equipment and a free-weight area which includes; heavy duty racks, Olympic benches and platforms, bumper plates, bars and dumbbells.
In particular, our Precor CV machines offer in-built fitness tests (so you can see your current fitness levels), personalised workouts (tailored to your fitness plan) and the ability to track your fitness progress.
Rees Suite high-performance gym
If you are a member of the TeamBU squad, you will have exclusive access to our high-performance gym.
Popular with our Strength & Conditioning coaches for training sessions (which you will have on a weekly basis), it’s kitted out with everything you’ll need for your ongoing training including; Olympic bars, bumper plates, lifting platforms, squat racks, dumbbells and kettlebells.

If you enjoy taking part in group fitness classes (or perhaps you’re keen to give them a try), our two modern, air-conditioned fitness studios, equipped with music systems, are a great space to exercise in. They are also available to hire for a range of sports, including dance, table tennis and many more.
Our modern, air-conditioned spin studio is home to our high-intensity spin classes.
It’s packed full of top-of-the-range spin bikes which you can adjust depending on how energetic you want your work-out to be.
Spin classes take place every day of the week during term time at SportBU, so you’ll always be spoilt for choice.
Our spacious and well-lit Sports Hall is home to both our Performance and Campus Sports programmes. It plays host to multiple team sports including badminton, basketball, handball, futsal and volleyball.
