Why study BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice (Apprenticeship) at BU?

  • This degree apprenticeship is a work-based integrated degree, which enables you to become an Operating Department Practitioner, while being employed within the operating theatre

  • Placements are diverse and career options are too; you could work in operating theatres, pre-assessment, intensive care, A&E, patient transfer teams and other more specialised areas of care.

Professional registration

This degree apprenticeship allows you to be employed and receive a full wage while studying. On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a BSc (Hons) degree qualification and be able to apply for professional registration with The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an ODP.

We also offer a BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice degree if you do not currently have an employer to support your apprenticeship. 

Approved by HCPC

This three-year course is approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) meaning that, upon successful completion of the programme, you will be eligible to apply to the Health & Care Professions Council for registration as an Operating Department Practitioner.

As an apprenticeship is similar to applying for a job your employer will also have specific entry requirements which you will need to meet in order to gain entry to the degree. 

International entry requirements:
