Data Storytelling: Build fundamental skills in visualising data, and utilising them in effective narratives to inform areas such as business decision making or communicating research findings. 

Applied Programming for Data Science: Develop fundamental programming skills to effectively use state-of-the-art tools and technologies for Data Science, and introduce application of basic AI models.

Human Computer Interaction: Develop the design and methodological skills required to develop AI solutions that interact with human end-users effectively and safely.

Data Processing and Analytics: Develop technical skills with databases (relational, graph and NoSQL) and core analytics of data, including the use of machine learning.

Explainable and Ethical AI: Start to build a strong foundation and understanding of the range of AI approaches and techniques, focusing on real-world challenges of ethical application of AI / ethical use of data. 

Industrial Skills and Professional Issues: You'll have the opportunity to develop transferrable professional skills in preparing you for both your independent project and future career.

Honours degree at 2:2 or higher in any discipline, or extensive industrial experience in this area.  

An unclassified degree with extensive industrial experience will also be considered.  

Qualifications equivalent to the above may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• India: Bachelor’s degree (three years) from a recognised HE institution with a minimum overall result of 55%  
• Nigeria: Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution with a minimum classification of 2:4  
• China: Chinese Bachelor's (Honours) degree from a recognised higher education institution with 65% or above  
• Turkey: Bachelor’s degree (Lisans Diplomasi - four years) with a minimum overall GPA of 2.3/4.0  
• Ghana: Bachelor's degrees from University of Ghana or Legon with a grade of 2.00 or above, or from Cape Coast with a grade 2.5 or above  
• USA: US Bachelor's degree (four years), with a 2.5 GPA or above  

All applications will be subject to a minimum grade and your degree may need to be in a relevant subject area.

Applicants may be invited to interview if they do not have a Psychology degree accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). 

English language requirements

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you understand English to a satisfactory level. English language requirements for this course are normally:

IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in writing, speaking, listening and reading, or equivalent.

• Travel costs, for optional field trips, outdoor wear and footwear for mandatory and optional field trips (if applicable).
• Travel costs to and from your placement (both in the UK and overseas) if this is part of your course of study. Placement year funding information can be found on our website.
• Expenses relating to placement or research projects e.g. travel etc. up to a maximum of £200 per student.
• SportBU membership.

While all aspects of the programme, including required field trips, are included in the fee, additional, optional or extra curricula activities may be available for which a student contribution is required.

If you need to repeat one or more units during the course of your studies (with or without attendance) the pricing will be pro-rata of the full-time fee.

International (not Rep. of Ireland) students need to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure their place on a postgraduate course. You will need to pay your deposit by the date stated in your offer letter. The remainder of your fee will be payable on registration/enrolment. There are two exceptions to the non-refundable rule on the deposit:

• You fail to meet the academic or English requirements of your offer
• You are refused a visa to enter the UK, provided the reason for the refusal is not a fraudulent application.

Dr Emili Balaguer-Ballester is a physicist with expertise in Computational Neuroscience (neuronal coding and dynamics, ensemble models, auditory modelling); with a focus on machine learning approaches specifically designed for analysing neuronal responses and realistic models.

Marcin's research interests lie in a broadly understood area of machine learning and data science, with a particular focus on practical applications.

Some of Marcin’s recent research projects include data analytics and predictive modelling for public transport, computer vision techniques for retail (self-checkout) and forensic applications (shoeprint and gait analysis) or link prediction in complex network systems (like social networks). Many of these projects involve students at various levels.

Professor Huseyin Dogan joined Bournemouth University (BU) in 2012. He is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Computing and Informatics Research Centre. Professor Dogan is also the Co-founder and Co-chair of the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) research group. His research focuses on Human Factors, Assistive Technology, Digital Health and Systems Engineering.

Prior to this, Professor Dogan led the postgraduate courses (2012-2015) and then the undergraduate courses (2015-2017) in Computing at BU, managing over 900 students. He is also the Co-Founder of four MSc programmes: (1) MSc Digital Health; (2) MSc Digital Health & Artificial Intelligence; (3) MSc Cyber Security & Human Factors; (4) MSc Marketing & User Experience.
