Complete University Guide Top 10 Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism logo

We are one of the top universities in the world for the study of tourism and hospitality, ranked 3rd in the UK for hospitality, event Management and tourism in the Guardian League Table 2019, 2nd in the UK (8th in the world) for hospitality and leisure management according to the QS University Rankings 2018 and 2nd in the UK (12th in the world) for hospitality and tourism management according to the Shanghai Rankings of Academic Subjects 2018.

Tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries on the planet, generating millions of new job opportunities worldwide, every year.

Accredited by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and recognised as an Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) Centre of Excellence, our four-year course was one of the first to be offered in the UK and has been refined over three decades to give you an excellent understanding of how private and public organisations work together within the tourism sector.

You’ll develop management and business skills that are essential to get ahead in this industry and in your final year, you’ll have a choice of modules, allowing you to tailor your degree to suit your interests and career goals.

You’ll have the chance to learn a new language; French, Spanish or Mandarin, and we regularly provide you with opportunities to apply what you have learnt to relevant real-world contexts, through industry speakers and events, consultancy projects and ‘live’ scenarios and residential fieldtrips to tourism hotspots. In the past, these have included Jersey and Malta, as well as various attractions within the UK.

Bournemouth is also a perfect location to study tourism management, a popular seaside resort with many tourism and hospitality businesses and opportunities to learn from the locality. You can also expand your horizons and spend some time studying abroad with one of our 40 partner institutions in the USA, Australia, Europe and Asia.

What’s more a 30-week supervised work placement in the UK or overseas will give you the opportunity to turn theory into practice in a business environment, ensuring you gain practical experience that could help you secure a management-level position immediately after graduating.
