Dr. Milena Bobeva is a key advocate of education and business innovation through staff-student collaboration and Technology Enhanced Learning. Her subject expertise is multidisciplinary, with key focus on system analysis, business process improvement, blended and e-learning, and performance management.

Milena is a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) since 2013 and a Senior Fellow for the Higher Education Academy (HEA) (now Advance HE), UK since 2015.

Throughout her years in HE Milena has taught at MBA level, as well as at all levels on large undergraduate (300+students) Business & Management programmes. She has actively adopted and promoted real-life project-based learning and the use of contemporary information and communication technologies as an integral part of applied research, consultancy and practice-based education. She was an MBA Director (2015-2019), Framework Leader for the Business & Management undergraduate programmes (2010-2013) and an acting Associate Dean for Global Engagement at the BU Business School (Oct'2017 - July'2021).

Her work with students as partners in subject-based research, enquiry and consultancy has involved organisations of different sizes and with local, regional, national and international exposure. It has been reported through a variety of channels, including journal and conference publications, workshops and reports.

Academic quality and standards are another aspect of Milena's work at BU. This involves being an active and long-serving member of the Quality Assurance and Enhancement Group and elected as an academic staff representative at BU Senate (2015-18) and BU Academic Standards Committee (2016-2018), mentoring fellow colleagues and assessing HEA applications. She is also a reviewer for EJBRM (Electronic Journal for Business Research Methods), Education Sciences and the Academic Conferences group (ECRM, ECEL and ECMLG).

Milena’s work has received numerous Bournemouth University awards and nominations for: Inspiring learning, Outstanding contributions to student learning, Significant contribution for developing excellence and for Enriching society.

Festival of Learning 2014 - MOOCs for staff development?
Reverse Mentoring is a strategy used in industry whereby younger, less experienced employees share their knowledge and expertise with a more senior person/s, e.g. using social media effectively. The workshop explored best practice in reverse mentoring, reported the findings of a study into the experiences of BU placement students and discussed industry experts' observations. The event provided a toolkit for embedding reverse mentoring in your organisation.
A talk introducing the specifics of MBA programmes and offering a decision making framework . The session was delivered with the participation of an alumni of the Bournemouth MBA. The GAIN framework presented at the session covers the following aspects: (G) General business programme/Global community; (A) Academic Standards and acreditations (AMBA, AACSB, EQUIS)/Adaptation; (I) Industry-focused, PRSBs recognised/Interactive, experiential and social learning; (N) Networking & PPD/New horizons
Running an interactive workshop presenting a 21st century employability radar, a practical tool for linking visual skills plotting to professional development planning.
The concept of learning gains has had a wider coverage internationally but is fairly new to the UK (HEFCE 2015).This session will first introduce learning gains (LGS) in the context of HE and compare these to learning outcomes and value-added. It will critically evaluate methods for measuring LGS and will focus on student e-portfolios and reflective accounts as evidence of PPD and LGS. We will then introduce the wider spectrum of learning opportunities within BU, including extra-curriculum activities such as Global Talent programme, the staff-student collaboration competitions, SUBU clubs and societies, and the Student Project Bank as hubs for social and experiential learning. A strategy for maximizing learning gains through explicit links between course delivery and the above provisions will be presented. It will be illustrated through the lived experiences of a BU student, who will talk about his journey as UG BS student that demonstrates how classes have inspired his business visions and further engagement with experiential and social learning through extra-curriculum activities. He will demonstrate his e-portfolios and other artefacts evidencing his PPD attainment. The session will conclude with a discussion of opportunities for collaboration in an international study on LGS and employability. Attendees will gain: -Understanding of learning gains and how they differ from learning outcomes and value-added; -Appreciation of how personalisation of education could be achieved through linking course studies with extra-curriculum activities, thus fusing formal, social and experiential learning; -Recognition of the role of reflective accounts and e-portfolios as evidence of learning gains and student employability. The work is grounded in Milena's pedagogic practice, using e-portfolios for student personal and professional development. It builds on her work in performance management, student employability and innovation in education.
This workshop will explore the strategies used at the highly international Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at BU for enhancing student professional development and employability. The Director of the programme will introduce the MBA programme, the challenges of the context within which it operates and the stimulus for engaged student learning provided by BU Global Fusion. Together with one of the current students, they will present the examples of the set of opportunities for professional development through engagement with academics, businesses and communities, including: • Project-based learning • Social learning • Student-staff co-creation and co-production • Reverse mentoring • Simulated exercises • Work experience and placement. Each example will be illustrated with visuals and a summary of the impact on the key stakeholders will be supported with appropriate evidence. The outcomes from two FIF projects on Reverse Mentoring will also be introduced. Delegates will be offered the opportunity to discuss with the presenters how these strategies advance the professional development of academics and students, and contribute to the enhancement of organisational practices. They will also be provided with surveys to note their views on the feasibility, desirability and experience of each of the strategies for student professional development. The surveys could either be done electronically (subject to testing options such as www.mentimeter.com ), or using pre-prepared paper copies. The outcomes of the surveys will be summarised at the end of the session with the view of bridging any cultural differences and providing a smooth transition for students from different cultures into UK Higher Education.
