Michael Sunderland

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Communication and Journalism and Programme Leader for MA Multimedia Journalism.

I am a PhD candidate with research interests in humanitarian communications, media and sustainability, and campaigning.

I am currently a Co-Investigator on Tie u Orja, a research and capacity building project aiming to strengthen disaster-preparedness among crisis communicators in Sierra Leone.

I was previously a producer and reporter at Sky News, where I specialised in foreign news, and later a video, radio and online journalist covering East and Central Africa. I have spent much of my career in Africa, both as a journalist and during two stints managing media relations for Save the Children.
