If you’re a Chinese student, you’re encouraged to book your place now for a Fraud Awareness event on Friday 14 March, 12.00 - 1.30pm PG22, (ground floor of Poole House, Talbot Campus).
Why is it important for you to attend?
At this event you will learn about some of the scams which are targeting international students in the UK at the moment. Often these scams are specifically aimed at Chinese students. We want to help you to identify these scams if you see them, to keep you and your money safe.
Unfortunately, we have recently seen several Chinese students at BU become the victims of such scams. The scammers are very clever and the scams are often very convincing. This is why it’s important that you come to this event to find out how to protect yourself.
Presenters:
Yanqian Hang (Sammi) is a Chinese member of staff at HSBC bank (and BU alum). She will be co-facilitating this session with her manager, Leanne Reed. They have first-hand experience of helping HSBC customers who have been the victims of scams. They will be joined by Damian Cranny, Fraud Protect Officer at Dorset Police who has a lot of experience to share and will help you to understand how to report fraud and how the British police can help you.
Lunch:
We'll provide a buffet lunch which will give plenty of time to talk to staff and ask any questions you may have in an informal way.
Please do encourage your Chinese friends to attend this event with you. Make sure they also register on Eventbrite so that we can ensure there is enough food for everyone.
