Bournemouth University (BU) and the Centre for Digital Entertainment have both been shortlisted for awards in the TIGA Game Industry awards.
This marks the seventh year that BU has been shortlisted for the Best Educational Institution award, having previously won the award in 2016. The Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE) has also been shortlisted for the Best Educational Initiative award for the second time.
TIGA is a UK-based network for digital publishers and game developers all representing the video games industry.
Head of Department for Creative Technology at BU Dr Christos Gatzidis said:"We are very much delighted to be nominated once again by our accrediting body TIGA in the Best Educational Institution category for the TIGA 2018 awards.
"This is one we won back in 2016 and we are very much looking forward to attending this great event in November, regardless of the nomination in fact, in order to celebrate the achievements of the UK games industry in the past year with old and new contacts plus friends."
The Centre for Digital Entertainment funds doctoral researchers in games, animation and visual effects. It offers specialist training, attendance at international conferences, access to games, apps jams and public outreach programs for those wishing to work in the digital and creative industries.
Professor Jian Jun Zhang is the co-director of the CDE and a professor of computer animation at BU.
He said: “Jointly with the University of Bath, we have been running the EPSRC funded Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE) for nearly ten years educating around ten doctoral students per year. Our aim has always been to produce the next generation of technical leaders for the creative industry.
"Through the large number of industry aware research projects we have been undertaking and working closely with the industry, our Engineering Doctorate (EngD) students and university academics have experienced tangible benefits in education, societal impacts, knowledge transfer and innovation.”
A panel of industry experts will pick the winners from the shortlisted entries, with the winners announced on 1st November 2018 at the Guildhall in London.
