Your experiences as a student here at BU are central to what we do and how we do it. This is both relating to your academic learning and more broadly across your time at the university. There are a number of ways in which you can have your suggestions heard and help to shape the direction of the university going forward. These range from becoming a student rep and completing student experience surveys to talking with senior university leaders about the big topics which are important to you.

Do you want to help us to recruit a new Chair for the university’s Board?
The Board oversees BU’s strategic direction and is made up of people from within higher education, industry and commerce, as well as representatives of students and staff. We are recruiting for a new Chair and we want to include students within the process. We are looking for students to be part of a panel to participate in a discussion with the candidates for the position. The discussion will be on the theme of How can the student experience be enhanced? and the candidates will chair the discussion. This is an important opportunity for them to meet with students, as key stakeholders of the university, and to hear more about your world and some of your hopes and aspirations. You will be asked to feedback by a short anonymous online survey after each session.
Date: The morning of 29 November
Time commitment: a maximum of two hours

Do you want to influence the strategic direction of the university and help us achieve our goals?
The VIS2ION group is the Vice-Chancellor’s strategic network for students and is very much future-looking. Students are paid for up to nine hours over the year and there is a bit of pre-work before each meeting, which take place in the evening. We are looking for up to 30 students, with a mix of subjects, levels and backgrounds from across the university.
Date: Three meeting between November and April, which take place in the evening
Time commitment: Overall, around nine hours
Location: Varies, both Lansdowne and Talbot campuses

Do you want to help us use student feedback to develop initiatives to improve your experience at BU?
The Student Voice and Engagement Committee is a formal BU committee reporting to the University Leadership Team. We are looking for eight students to use your experiences and views to participate in the committee, which looks at broad issues around student feedback and improvements which we can make.
Date: Approximately four meetings a year, which will take place during the day, mostly Wednesdays and Thursdays
Time commitment: Pre-reading and attendance at the committee meetings.
Location: 5th floor, Poole House, Talbot Campus
