A new scholarship has been launched to support talented students preparing for careers in the games industry.
Bournemouth University has partnered with award-winning games studio Creative Assembly, which is known for its Total War and Alien: Isolation franchises.
Through the partnership, two students starting the BA (Hons) Computer Animation and Visualisation in 2025 will be awarded a £3,000 a year scholarship together with mentoring and career support from the team at Creative Assembly. The scholarship is designed to support talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in the UK.
Lucy Boxall, VP of Strategy and Communications at Creative Assembly said: “Creative Assembly is thrilled to be offering this scholarship opportunity, which reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of creative talent. By providing financial support and mentorship, we aim to remove barriers and empower students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their ambitions in games development."
The successful applicants will be chosen based on their responses to an online application, a review of their submitted project work and a short interview with the Creative Assembly team.
Professor Paula Callus, Head of the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) at BU, said: “Industry partnerships are an essential part of equipping our students for successful careers. Students from all over the world choose to study at Bournemouth University because of the enviable reputation of the NCCA and its strong network of graduates working in films and games design. We are pleased to be further strengthening our links with Creative Assembly as we support and develop talented students with the contemporary skills that employers demand.”
The Creative Assembly Scholarship joins a growing number of company-funded student support packages at BU, which aim to break down barriers to university study for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. They include the ESET Women in Cyber Studentship and AFC Bournemouth Careers in Sport Studentship.
Jonathan Goode, Head of Communications & Advancement at Bournemouth University said: “Funding and practical career support can make a big difference in levelling the field for students who face additional barriers when it comes to succeeding in higher education. We are grateful to the team at Creative Assembly for partnering with us on this initiative and look forward to awarding the first scholarships later in the academic year.”
Students can now apply for the scholarship online until 28 November.
